Your Vote Can Stop a Genocide

The Simplest Possible Guide to the 2024 Election

Both candidates support a genocide, so vote against both candidates.

— I know, I know, Hear me out:

I am not an idealist, but I do want to live in a country where voting against genocide is an option; where at least one candidate acts like they care when Israel massacres children in a U.N. run school. If you vote for Kamala Harris, American politics will only get worse.

The nightmare is not Trump — we are in the nightmare. The nightmare is having two candidates who are trying to appeal to Fox News’ made-up image of a bigoted white male voter in the Midwest. The nightmare is having two candidates competing to be the most heartless, the most murderous, the most genocidal. Harris has said she will not change the United States’ unconditional support of Israel, nor stop weapons shipments as Israel bombs hospitals and shoots children in the back of their heads. When asked if she would stop any shipments of weapons, she told CNN “I’m unequivocal and — and unwavering in my commitment to Israel’s defense and its ability to defend itself.”

The Times of Isreal has even published an op-ed in support of her, saying:

Vice President Harris instantaneously confirmed her ironclad support for the US-Israel alliance and the Israeli people and partnered with President Biden to provide the most significant, sustained support for the state of Israel since its founding.

She supported President Biden’s decision to send two carrier strike groups to the region, and helped enact the emergency Israel aid bill House Republicans had blocked for six months after the attacks.

Indeed, it was Biden and Harris who oversaw an unprecedented defense of Israel against Iranian missiles in April — and again in October — plus they authorized several major arms sales to Israel that will deepen our cooperation…

This is not the only human rights issue that Harris is far-right on — she and the Democrats championed a bipartisan bill that would have made it harder for refugees to claim asylum and further militarized the border. The bill was supported by the National Border Patrol Council, the union that represents border agents.

Why is the Democratic candidate competing with Trump to seem more violently pro- “National Security” and killing brown people? Why is she taking violently right-wing stances on the genocide and the border while supporting things like abortion?

Democrats think some Republican women will vote blue for women’s rights, and think attacking human rights will make the party more palatable to Republican voters. Democrats are politicians, they shoot babies for votes.

This deadly wager only works for Democratic politicians because they know if they say “women’s rights matter!” while burning babies alive in tents, we will vote for the lesser of two evils. But what if we didn’t? What if our votes could be lost, and therefore mattered?

The right-wing is winning because they play hard ball — because they’re willing to withhold their votes.

There are only five states where a majority of residents support a ban on abortion: North Dakota (53%), South Dakota (53%), Arkansas (54%), Idaho (55%), and Utah (55%), and there’s no state where more than 16% of residents support an abortion ban in all cases. Yet these are the type of extremist bans Republicans are passing in states like Texas, where over half of the population supports legal abortion!

Why? How? There is a group of voters, Evangelical Christians, who only vote for Republicans when they are against abortion — some right-wing groups are threatening to abandon Trump now because he said he would not support a national ban on abortion. Republicans have to get their vote, so they go further and further right on abortion.

Refusing to vote for any politician who does not support a specific policy is moral-line voting, and I would not advocate it for anything, except genocide. Voting on a moral-line means voting on a single issue. No issue is that important — except genocide. Genocide is that important because Israel killed more children in the first four months of its genocide then every conflict combined for the last four years. There is no other issue killing this many people. Israel is using starvation as a weapon against a civilian population. It is systematically murdering aid workers, journalists, and medical staff in order to cut Palestinians off from any form of help.

In the face of Democrats’ support for the genocide, Arab-Americans in Michigan are pushing for voters to write-in “uncommitted” instead of supporting Harris. People of conscience across America can join them and make genocide an electoral issue again.

Genocide is a moral line. We should vote like it is a moral line.

The Right proves over and over that a small group of dedicated wackos can influence policy. Why can’t the majority of people in this nation (who are against the genocide) elect a single politician who is against the mass murder of Palestinian civilians?

They win and we lose because we are unwilling to vote on the issue. Democrats will not change their policies for votes they consider guaranteed — instead they chase Republican women, Centrists, and the Israel lobby.

People of conscience in this country need to be willing to fight just as hard for what we believe in as the right-wing, gun-slinging, anti-abortion, pro-Israel wackos are for what they believe in. That means not voting for Trump or Harris, genocide or genocide.

We can put Palestine back on the ballot. If we refuse to vote for pro-genocide candidates, we force politicians to fight for the human rights vote.
